A mother has been found guilty of killing her baby daughter by filling her mouth with toilet paper and hiding her body in a suitcase.
Claudia Martins, 33, was convicted of manslaughter by reason of diminished responsibility after being acquitted of murder.
Martins gave birth alone at her sister’s flat in Knowle, Bristol on September 12 last year after keeping her pregnancy hidden from her family and friends.
The Portuguese national was rushed to hospital after being found sitting in a pool of blood in the bath.
Police discovered the child’s body two days later, after Martins’ sister, Vilma, noticed a smell coming from a suitcase in the defendant’s bedroom.
