Children-in-care lawsuit against Alberta government to be settled
Source: Voices Silenced By Fear.
Children assaulted or sexually assaulted while in the Alberta child welfare system between 1966 and 2008 have agreed to a settlement proposal in their class-action lawsuit against the Alberta government.
*Anyone who is part of the Class Action needs to thoroughly read the Settlement Agreement because if you do not agree that it is in your best interest, a WRITTEN submission must be sent to the lawyers “No later than November 10, 2015.” For instance, if you do not believe that the award settlement is commeasurate with injury. There is a set figure in the settlement so the compensation each individual will receive depends upon how many people are involved. The more victims, the less the award. A copy of the Notice and terms of the Settlement document can be found here:http://www.mckenzielake.com/…/cla…/alberta-child-welfare
The suit includes children who were placed in provincial care from July 1, 1966 to Feb. 19, 2008. (That could be a whole lotta people.) ~ Velvet Martin
