Whitewash of BBC Jimmy Savile report ‘means there must be a full public inquiry’


ONE of Britain’s top child abuse lawyers has called for a public inquiry to find out what BBC chiefs knew about the Jimmy Savile scandal.

Peter Garsden said it would bring “much-needed transparency” after Dame Janet Smith’s controversial report into the disgraced star, which has been widely condemned as a whitewash.

 

The BBC-commissioned review, published on Thursday, absolved senior management of any blame, concluding there was no evidence that the corporation was aware of paedophile Savile’s behaviour.
