Child Migrants Trafficked

Child migrants who were trafficked is a very serious issue

Children as young as four had been told their parents were dead, and been sent to children’s homes on the other side of the world.  Many were subjected to appalling abuse.  This is forced adoption at its worse.

The scheme, which ran from the 1920s to the 1960s, an estimated 150,000 poor youngsters aged between three and 14 were sent to Commonwealth countries such as Australia and Canada, but many ended up being abused in foster homes, state-run orphanages and religious institutions.  Child migrants who were trafficked is a very serious issue, which our current Government is attempting to address by increasing adoption  targets.

After four decades of living and working in children’s homes, Ross Baker* is preparing for a lifestyle change. It is not something the 44-year-old residential care manager is happy about but, like many, he fears the impending slashing of government spending will leave him with little choice.

“Children’s homes are my life. I grew up in one, left school to work in one and now I manage one. But referrals have plummeted and, if they don’t pick up, we will be forced to close before the end of the year,” he says http://www.communitycare.co.uk/Articles/2011/02/08/116236/how-childrens-homes-providers-can-survive-the-economic-chill.htm
